Pastor Ethan Steinbrenner                                Pastor Steven Wilkens

Seventh Sunday after Pentecost

July 8th & 11th , 2010

Welcome to Bethany

In the name of our Lord Jesus, we welcome you to the house of God.  We pray that within our church you will find the quiet assurance of God's presence, the warmth of Christian fellowship, and the abiding truth of God's Word.  If you have no church home and would like to know more about Bethany, feel free to contact the pastors.  Come worship with us again!

Friendship Registers

During the offering collection everyone is encouraged to sign the friendship registers.  They are found at the end of each pew & are designed to be passed to the other end and back during that time.

The Congregational Offering

The offering is a means by which the members of Bethany not only support the work of the Gospel both here and abroad, but first and foremost is a means by which they can show thanks and praise to God in response to his gracious gifts to them.  For that reason it is collected as part of our public worship.  If you're visiting today, please feel comfortable in refraining from the offering if you like.

For Your Convenience

Restrooms are in the church entryway.  Handicapped accessible restrooms are through the parish hall in the the educational wing.  A “Mother's Room” for parents is located in the church entryway, containing a speaker, rocking chair and changing table.  A staffed nursery is available on Sundays in rm. 13 of the educational wing.

Please Ask an Usher For:

Large print bulletins;  hearing devices; other conveniences. Note: we have reserved seating for parents with small children in the back pews.

Prayer to begin worship: God of all power and might, you are the giver of all that is good.   Help us love you with all our heart, strengthen us in true faith, provide us with all we need, and keep us safe in your care; through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.  Amen.

Hymns:                                   559, 576, 573 vs. 4, 570, 544

The Order of Service for Today: The order of service is located in the front of the red hymnals.  Our opening hymn is Hymn 559.  Following the hymn we will turn to p. 52 on Thursday or p. 45 on Sunday.  Follow the order of service as it is found there.  Scripture readings are listed below, with the page numbers if you choose to follow along in the Bible located in the pews.  An offering is taken after the sermon and as it is brought forward Hymn 573 vs. 4 will be sung.  Please sign the friendship registers as they are passed through the pew during the offering.  The closing hymn is 544.

The Psalm                               Psalm 66,  p. 90 in the hymnal

The Lord's awesome power, evident in his merciful acts on behalf of the righteous, inspires our fervent praise.

The Scripture Lessons:         Isa. 66:10-14  pew Bible p.  744

Isaiah's prophetic picture of the Christian Church is one of peace and joy, a work only accomplished by “the hand of the Lord.”

Sermon Text & Theme:       Luke 10:1-12, 16-20 -pew Bible p. 1027

Sharing God's Word is Serious Business

1.       The work is difficult.

2.        The results are amazing.

Many Thanks – Pastor Brad Krause is our guest speaker today.  He will not only conduct the service but also show a slide presentation on his ministry in Mexico following the service Thurs and after the 2nd service on Sunday.  Brad did evangelism work on a volunteer basis in Mexico the past year, and now has been assigned as permanent missionary in Leon, Mexico, leaving soon.  God's Blessings to him and his family.

Worth Quoting  True freedom is not in having your own way, but in yielding to God's way.

WELS Connection: Our July edition of our synod update video will be shown today, highlighting schools of outreach.  The main reward—realizing that evangelism is everyone's responsibility.
